"I'm supporting St Michael's to thank them for the care they gave the mother of my young daughter"

Martin Rouse still lovingly remembers the care St Michael’s gave the mother of his young daughter.

Amy was just six when her mum – Martin’s former wife Clare – died at St Michael’s almost ten years ago after contracting bowel cancer, which later spread to her liver and lungs.

“Clare had a week at St Michael’s until she passed away,” said Martin.

“Amy was just six at the time. It’s been very hard for her growing up without her mother.

“The staff at the Hospice were fantastic with Clare. The palliative care was second to none.”

To say thank you, Martin will be taking part in the Gloucester Half Marathon on Sunday, 30th March.

“I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved. I’ve been running for 10 months now. I’m nearly 56, but slowly but surely, my distance is getting further and further. Ten months ago, I couldn’t run for 10 minutes; now I’m doing a half marathon.

“I just wanted to raise some money for St Michael’s, to carry on the great work they do, and to remember Amy’s mum.”
