A message to our wonderful Presteigne community
Our beloved Presteigne charity shop will close on Saturday, March 29th.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of our much-loved charity shop in Presteigne, which will take place on Saturday, March 28th.
This decision has not been made lightly. Despite the tireless efforts of our fantastic volunteers, staff, and the incredible support from the local community, the shop has not reached the required profitability level to remain open.
As a charity, we must ensure that the donations and support we receive are directed where they can have the greatest impact – providing free, vital care to over 2,400 people every year, both in their homes and in our hospice.
Our retail network plays a critical role in helping us deliver these services, and it’s something we cannot continue without. It’s with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to close the Presteigne shop.
However, we want to make it abundantly clear that our commitment to supporting the Presteigne community remains unwavering. The care we provide for those in need, regardless of their location in Powys or Herefordshire, will not change. Our team will continue to be there for those who need us, delivering compassionate end-of-life care.
We know how deeply this community has supported us over the years, and we’re incredibly grateful for every item donated, every item purchased, and the kindness we have received. It has truly been a privilege to serve this community. We would still love to have a presence in Presteigne, and we are open to exploring alternative ways to engage with you. Whether through pop-up shops, community events, or any ideas you may have, we welcome your thoughts and suggestions on how we can continue to be part of this vibrant community.
Thank you, Presteigne, for all the love and support you’ve shown us over the years.
We look forward to continuing to support you in every way we can.

FAQs
Despite our best efforts, income is insufficient to warrant keeping the shop open and signing up to a new lease. With increasing operational costs and the need to ensure we’re spending donations and resources in the most effective way, we’ve made the very difficult decision to close the shop. The funds we receive must be used to support our hospice care services, and we need to ensure that we are operating efficiently across all areas.
The shop will close on Saturday 29th March.
We are incredibly grateful for the time our volunteers have given to the Presteigne shop. We will be working with them to ensure that their support over the years is appropriately recognised and celebrated.
Yes, absolutely! We’re still in need of volunteers in a number of other areas within the hospice, both in other shops and within the hospice itself. If you’d like to explore new volunteer roles with us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our People team. volunteer@smhospicehereford.org
